My week in review was not as eventful as I hoped because I got sick with a very bad cold and stayed in bed most of the week. I still took Jelly for walks in the park but every time we got back I would be exhausted and have to go back to bed. I did anything on the laptop I could do from my new bed office. It was one of those sicknesses where I couldn’t think and didn’t want to. So the week was probably go to the park, go to bed, teach online, go to park, go to bed pretty much for three days. Then Thursday and Friday were probably the worst, I was exhausted and coughing. No lessons so I could really get into laying in bed. I watched a lot of Arrested Development reruns because it’s so dumb and funny it cheered me up.
Saturday morning Ben and I shot a video for our song "Wine For Breakfast" for the NPR tiny desk contest. It’s just fun to try that contest and make a video, I never expect to win. Anyway, being sick sucks when you’re trying to look good and act like you’re having fun. I think I did an ok job of it though. Ben is always fun to watch perform because he’s a bouncy floppy big haired bass player so he looked cute and played his upright with lots of movement and gusto. Also by 3:00 in the afternoon the temperature dropped and it started snowing and it remained super cold and snowy until Sunday afternoon. Typical Ohio weather but spring is coming and the time changed.
The theme of re visiting the 90’s continued this Saturday with a very fun group chat with 4 of my old college roommates-John, Brian, Wendy and Robbi. Our roommate John was a photography student and was always taking great photos so he sent a bunch and we all commented and laughed about random hilarious stuff. We had such a great few years living in an artists community way and always doing something fun musically and artistically and having fun parties.
Tim who was mentioned in the podcast I recorded last weekend (Local Waste) for his work as Disco Dave a DJ and performer in the 90’s was also our roommate and one of my best friends from high school. He decorated our house beautifully with 70’s swag lamps, furniture and velvet curtains. It was awesome. Most college students did not live in a groovy 70’s house. I sent him a bunch of the photos and he sent me Disco Dave photos for the podcast's FB page and then he called me and we had a great time catching up and laughing and appreciating how free we felt in the 90’s and how the art school had this performance art major and there were crazy classes that don’t exist anymore. I remember people doing these projects that were performance art and being in some and it was just like, “Huh? What the heck does this mean and it’s supposed to be art?” But it was super fun and if someone wanted to make a creative project happen we were all in and would always help. Tim told me that Annie Sprinkle who was an ex porn star even taught a class and she did this thing where she put a ceramic egg up her vagina and let people look at it like she was at a gynecologist appointment and that was considered performance art. Not surprisingly OSU discontinued that program.
Sunday night ended with me getting a text from Jon Peterson to see if I’d like to co host on his radio show this week for Women’s History Month. The other 2 co hosts he asked are Shaun Booker and Long Tall Deb. I of course said yes and the segment will be on this Friday.
